Under the Radar: Sig Sauer SP2022

Many people have used or heard of the Sig Sauer P226, and P229. With these two guns and their many variants having seen service around the world, many people fail to remember the underappreciated Sig SP2022, a polymer framed Sig pistol that features similar controls to the P226 and P229 powerhouses.

While not holding quite the pedigree of the P226/9, the SP2022 is no slouch when it comes to military and law enforcement service. France's purchase of 250,000 SP2022 pistols in 2003 for various French military and police units, was the single largest purchase of service handguns since WWII. With a much smaller presence in the US service market, the SP2022 has seen use with the Richmond Police Department chambered in .357 SIG. With a smooth double and single action trigger, the SP2022 is a great alternative to a mid to full-size double/single action pistol for near half the cost of its aluminum frame Sig brethren.

Fun Fact: The SP2022 is slated for service with the French Police until 2022, hence its name.
